The overall theme of my work centres on the behaviour of colour through light, by exploring shape, colour composition and colour mixing.
I approach this by manipulating the additive, subtractive and partitive qualities to induce colours from their surroundings and mixtures. Extensive exploration of colour within screen printing has been important to manipulate Procion (dye stuff), to successfully explore the theories which drive my enquiries within colour behaviours.
Theories such as Succesive Contrast, Simultaneous Contrast and Metamerism provide a foundation for making artwork and textiles. A ‘metameric’ notion of colour mixing has been applied to my most recent project i.e. all colours used in both painting and printing are mixtures of only yellow, red and blue.
